The only authority for all things beer…

About the Blogger/Consultant

Frank Sinatra once said, “I feel sorry for people who don’t drink. When they wake up in the morning, that’s as good as they’re going to feel all day.” I couldn’t agree more with that. From my first cerveza Tecate in Mazatlan (spring break ’97) to my first World Beer Tour award just before I graduated from college … a plaque that actually has my name engraved on it forever pinned against one of the brick walls at Old Chicago Bar & Grill in Tucson, Arizona for accomplishing a feat of trying 110 different beers, I have seen firsthand the popularity of craft beer grow exponentially all over the world. Nowadays, there are a myriad of microbreweries, brewpubs, homebrewing cohorts, beer-related seminars, brewing certification programs, beer courier or trading operations, beer festivals, and blog sites like this one. Beer is a HUGE business and phenomenon!

Since moving to the Washington D.C. area after graduating college, I have seen the area slowly become a world-class beer town. Even when I visit family in the Midwest or back in Arizona, the choices available to the local beer nerdery are staggering and ever expanding. The neighborhood corner stores continue to add microbrews to their stock and it seems that a dynamite draft selection is essential to any new bar or restaurant that opens. The number of beer-themed events can make the head spin as well. At a handful of downtown brewpubs the beer enthusiast can even sample a variety of house made brews. It is amazing how beer can bring people, a community, and even an economy together. Heck, a bar is one of the very few places in the world where enemies can put their differences aside and drink together.

I have always enjoyed good brews since college, but my obsession of pursuing the best and/or the rarest beers has only but grown over the years. The Beer Authority was born after my buddies urged that I share my beer reviews with the world. Besides, I’ve been wanting to keep some sort of “beer journal” that kept tabs of all the interesting and top-notch beers, breweries, brewpubs, and restaurants I have, and will, come across. Additionally, I provide beer consulting services to numerous bar and restaurant venues as well as presenting at various beer tasting events. I have been known to be one the first Deaf beer bloggers and consultants in the nation.

Outside of my full-time job, indulging in and writing about beer has been fun, yet an educational process in addition to my other personal and professional interests such as running for charities, traveling, investing, biking, reading, baseball, and doing various independent strategic planning / consulting work. As always, I appreciate your readership, comments, and especially referrals!

Thanks for reading The Beer Authority.

Sláinte!
