Community Beer Company Barrel-Aged Legion

BA Legion11% ABV. Barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout from Community Beer Company in Dallas, TX. I received this as a gift from a generous beer geek and was glad to have tried something completely new and local from Dallas. Pours a dark espresso along with a very light mocha half finger head. Aroma is pretty subdued compared to most barrel aged stouts, but when whiffed close gives off creamy vanilla, chocolate, toffee, dried fruit, whiskey and oak. Dark chocolate, oak, whiskey, honey, burnt toast, and vanilla in the flavors. There were also some brown sugar, faint caramel and molasses detected in the back of the palate. Mouthfeel could be thicker, but for some reason, this came off as a very unbalanced beer for the style. Nothing blew me away here. Initial reviews from my research indicated that this was a top rated beer, so I couldn’t agree as it fell short in many areas. theBeerAuthority: B
