Central Waters Black Gold

CW Black Gold11% 11% ABV. A Central Waters (Wisconsin) 1414 Anniversary Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels for 35 months. Limited release of 400 bottles. It has the similar underlying qualities as demonstrated in their anniversary releases – malty, bourbon notes, caramel, powdered cocoa, graham crackers, and vanilla. This is by far superior to any of these anniversary releases. I continue to be amazed that this special beer has been aged in bourbon barrels for nearly two years and the quality shows! Pours pitch black with a quickly diminishing dark brown head. Notes of medium roast coffee, wood, bourbon and dark chocolate is picked up in the nose. The flavors burst of delicious complexity in which I have already listed – roast malts, caramel, toffee, chocolate, cocoa nibs, and oats. The mouthfeel is surprisingly thinner than expected provided the wallop of a punch this beer offers, so that slightly nicks the overall score from being a perfect beer in my eyes. theBeerAuthority: A
