The only authority for all things beer…

Hardywood Christmas Morning

IMG_81349.5% abv. A blend of Brazilian and Sumatran coffee beans from Richmond’s Blackhand Coffee Co. take this variation of Hardywood’s (Richmond, VA) Gingerbread Stout (GBS) to a whole new level of decadence. I had the privilege of trying this at a beer tasting event earlier this year and you can count on me hunting this fine Hardywood GBS variant this holiday season! This beer pours black with a frothy and dense brown head. There is definitely that expected coffee in the nose along with roasted malt, slightly burnt gingerbread cookies, toffee, and hints of caramel. The flavors picks up big coffee and gingerbread with soft chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, light lactic notes, vanilla and cocoa. Medium-bodied with a dense, bubbly carbonation throughout. Lots of lingering coffee bitterness as well. Finishes with some more of that dark coffee, gingerbread yumminess, caramel, vanilla and cocoa. An outstanding beer worthy of the rating – the highest ever awarded to a Christmas/Winter beer!
