The only authority for all things beer…

Central Waters 15

IMG_799411% ABV. Anniversary Imperial Stout aged for 26 months in 14 year bourbon barrels from Central Waters Brewing Co. in Amherst, WI. This has been a long time want of mine ever since missing their 15th anniversary party that I was invited to as a courtesy from the brewery for their infected Peruvian Morning that I had to drain out. This beer, which I had to give up quite a few for, poured an opaque black color with a diminishing mocha head. Velvet chocolate, oak, figs, vanilla, and a bourbon breeze detected in the nose. Nutty flavors seemed to underlie the chocolate, graham crackers, sweet malt, and bourbon which begins hot, then gradually becomes tolerant as the beer returns close to room temperature. The thin mouthfeel might be largely attributed to some age on it. Overall, a solid beer and somewhat complex for the style which is something I always look in new beers that I try. Edited 3/20/15: I tried the CW16 and CW17 which both drew very similar comparisons with CW17 taking the lead on being the most delicious and creamiest experience. You get more bang for the buck with the CW17 when comparing to beers like Churchill’s Finest Hour or Toppling Goliath Assassin.
