Cigar City Good Gourd Almighty

Cigar City Good Gourd11% ABV. Imperial Pumpkin Ale brewed with copious amounts of pumpkin with Ceylon cinnamon, Jamaican all-spice, Zanzibar cloves and nutmeg added, and then aged in rum barrels from Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, FL. I landed this puppy from a fellow craft beer aficionado who has access to such gems and I have wanted to try the barrel aged version of the brewery’s regular Good Gourd pumpkin beer. Pours a murky orange brown color with a half finger off-white head that dissipated rather quickly. The aroma overwhelms with some of that barrel rum, which later fades into a beautiful sweet medley of vanilla cream, pumpkin spices, caramel, toffee, cream, nutmeg, and a touch of brown sugar. The flavors do not stray far from those qualities – gentle spice and mellow sweetness make their way through the heat which becomes near non-existent, giving just a kiss on the way backend. Medium bodied with a thin carbonation which I thought was a mild let down. I liked how the rum barrel provides a synergy of flavors and brings the beer into focus. This is definitely one of my favorite pumpkin beers.
