The only authority for all things beer…

Otter Creek Brewing / Lawson’s Double Dose IPA

Lawsons Double Dose IPA8.5% Imperial India Pale Ale from Otter Creek Brewing (done in collaboration with Lawson’s) from Middlebury, VT. I had the opportunity to try this gem at a top beer bar in Washington, DC. In the Green Mountains, the landscape is dotted with breweries that have established Vermont as one of the premier beer destinations in the world. They pack a lot into their little state–abundant local foods, great music, natural beauty, and amazing beer. Vermonter’s know the finest things in life are best enjoyed with good buds. Friends and brewers Shawn Lawson and Mike Gerhart have teamed up to create a beer that features the best qualities of each brewery. Lawson, the bold adventurous brewer of Lawson’s Finest Liquids has earned a reputation for top-notch IPAs and award-winning maple beers. Fans flock to central Vermont in search of Lawson’s small-batch bottled creations and to enjoy his draught beer to select handful of your bars at a select handful of beer bars and restaurants. Gerhart a brewer from Otter Creek partnered up with Lawson’s Finest to deliver the highest quality beer which includes water from each brewery, locally sourced specialty malt, and a dose of freshly harvested Vermont hops. So you could see why I was excited to try this one! Pours a hazy gold color with a huge, foamy white head that fades slowly and leaves behind great lacing throughout. Aroma is fresh, juicy hops, mandarin oranges, pineapple, grapefruit with some light pine, and floral notes. Taste is juicy but not overly sweet, which provided for good balancing in the flavor profile – light sweetness with a strong bitter punch. Packed with oranges and pineapple. Finishes with some nice floral hops. Hint of dryness were detected which made me want to slam it. Medium to thick body, some nice oiliness. Overall, what a hell of a collaboration! Wish there were more to go around considering how extremely difficult it is to land a Lawson’s anywhere.
