Goose Island Cherry Rye Bourbon County Brand Stout

bcbscherry13.9% ABV. Imperial Stout from Goose Island Beer Company in Chicago, IL. I am a huge fan of the Bourbon Country Brand Stout (BCBS) and was excited to try a variant of this one. I landed the last bottle at a local beer shop (had to ask and it was behind the cashier counter). The pour is nearly black with a thin tan head. The aroma picked up a combination of cherry and whiskey which I found to be quite exquisite, especially with the light coconut, vanilla, and oak in the background. Heavy chocolate and a bit of sweetness follow things up, as well as just a touch of light rye spice. The flavor combination of the aforementioned characteristics with the heavy, chewy base beer and just a touch of booze makes for quite an interesting experience. However, it is not what I had hoped it would have tasted. The whiskey and cherry combination along with some booziness wasn’t my idea of a smooth drinking bourbon stout like the BCBS. In any case, I was glad to tick this off my wants list.
