Alewerks Bitter Valentine

9% ABV. Double IPA from Williamsburg Alewerks in Virginia. Came across this interesting bottle at a local Whole Foods. Thought I’d post this on Valentine’s Day – though I have nothing to be bitter about, but for those who are bitter in being alone, you could not have asked for more love and attention from this brew. Bitter Valentine is citrus-hoppy- a lot of orange, grapefruit, and some lemon. Hints of grass, pepper, and pineapple are present as well. Fairly astringent mouthfeel. Sweetness is mild and only present for an instant up front before the bitterness takes over; and a hint of sweetness peaks its head in the finish before long bitter aftertaste. It’s good, a little ones-sided on the citrus-hops, but it does that part well. Again, there is no reason to be bitter on Valentine’s day with this one!
