Surly Wet

6% ABV. IPA from Surly Brewing Company in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. I traded away a fine bottle of Firestone Walker Parabola for a four pack of this beer that I’ve heard quite a bit about. To make this beer, Surly took 1,400 lbs of hops picked freshly in Oregon and shipped to Minnesota immediately. They brewed this beer three days later with a mission to make this a hop-forward beer. Can poured into a snifter. Clear dark gold. Nice small white head and good lacing. Faint grassy aroma. Nice bitterness and grassy flavor with some hop resin too. Dry with a medium body and perfect carbonation. I tried it straight from the can and it was much more flavorful. Overall, I was disappointed. I would have never guessed they used 100% citra hops in this. I expected more tropical and citrusy hop aromas and flavors. I much prefer the Founders Harvest Ale or Bell’s HopSlam over this one by a mile.
