Boulevard Sixth Glass Quadrupel Ale

10.5% ABV. Quad from Boulevard Brewing in Kansas City, Missouri. Acquired from a Whole Foods store in Texas during a visit. “Do you know what dwells in a glass?” asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. This quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass… Poured in a snifter glass. Shows a deep copper color with a smallish tightly bubbled white head that shows moderate retention. Smells of brown sugar and candied dark fruits mostly with a hint of pepper and spicy yeast. Taste is sweet candied fruit and brown sugar mixed with a bit of pepper, yeast, and ethanol goodness. Medium to thick body, spirited level of carbonation, sweet bubbly mouthfeel. Overall, finally a solid American Quad I can relate to quite well.
