Three Floyds XV Anniversary Baller Stout

13.8% ABV. Russian Imperial Stout from Three Floyds Brewing in Munster, Indiana. This was a special Three Floyd’s 15th Anniversary beer which is a blend of 3F’s famous and most-sought after Dark Lord, Surly Darkness, De Struise Black Albert, and Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch. A buddy of mine went to the XV release party (2,500 ticket limit, $30 a bottle and three per person only). Poured from bomber into snifter glass. Pours a rich roasty dark brown-black pour, murly and dark with a mocha-like off-white head along with thin sticky lacing that lasts throughout. Aromas are piney, dry, and roasty with touches of creamy roast, vanilla, and toffee. Quite dry on the nose. Touches of dark fruit works its way in as the brew warms up in the taste along with light brown sugar, little smoke, toffee and caramel. I can detect the Dark Lord body in here along with some Black Albert, Mikkeller Breakfast, and Surly Darkness. Nice blend, but not overly complex as I’d had hoped it to be. There was some astringency to this beer along with earthy notes. Rich, viscous, and full-bodied beer. Finish is gradual and lingering maltiness but quite dry, hoppy. Overall, a very nice beer! Looking forward to the 20th Anniversary brew.
