The only authority for all things beer…

Weyerbacher Insanity (beer review)

11.1% ABV. Acquired as an extra through trade. This beer pinqued my interest as this was a highly rated barley wine from the Weyerbacher Brewery in Easton, Pennsylvania. Poured from 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. No date. Pours a dark amber color with a red light; thin creamy head. The aroma is malty, with a touch of vanilla and very light wallnut. Thick body, full malt flavor, very sweet, with sweet caramel and fudge too, a hint of liquorice. Even the final is very sweet, not enough hopped, there is a lot of malt and caramel, some sweet liquorice; the alcohol warmth is too much. Not enough complex, not fully convincing; and the barrel is missing in action. I was not a big fan of the sediments found in this beer, although, I understood its purpose. This beer was definitely not for me. theBeerAuthority: D. Available in Metro DC? Yes.
